Must Have Incense ?
By:
Hi! I've been thinking about buying some more supplies such as incense to help with meditation and focus, but also to use in rituals and spells possibly.

The only thing is I am not sure which one to buy, and I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations?
I have been using sandalwood for the most part because it was the one I had readily available and I'm already gonna buy a sage one for sure but I'd really like to hear which other one you guys think anyone should have in their cupboard!

(If you want to recommend a particular brand, you recommend I'd love to hear that too)

Whatever works for you. You don't need incense if you don't want to buy it, but for me rose and lavender works well and music helps for mediation or drumming.

Walmart now has a really nice collection of incense in their candle and incense isle. You can also get smudge sticks there now. They have everything from sandalwood to black cherry, and everything in between. You can get the packets from $5.00 to $0.98. You can get yourself a small collection for a pretty nice price.

I have always been fond of Nag Champa for meditation.

If you're thinking of using incense in spellwork you might do some research as to what herbs correspond to the goal of your spell. For instance, for wealth cinnamon would be a good choice. Or for protection you might consider sage, cedar, or bay in addition to sandalwood.

You can get a lot of information on herbal correspondences and how to go about creating your own incense in the books "Incense, Oils, and Brews" and "Magical Herbalism" by Scott Cunningham

The shop right here on SOM carries a wide variety of incenses. The Nirvana brand isn't overly expensive and has some lovely scents. I'm particularly fond of their Nag Champa and their rose. You can find the listings for incense at https://www.spellsofmagic.com/shop.html?c=I

I love Nag Champa, not only does it smell wonderful, I have heard from another witch that it has similar properties to sage (in the sense that it purifies a space I believe). Honestly, just smelling it relaxes me and almost makes me feel more in touch with my spirituality. It's the only incense I own and the only one I use. If you are like me and find its scent calming, I think it would be great for your meditation!

The only issue is my specific brand of backflow Nag Champa really struggles to light. If you have a backflow burner I would recommend brands other than Goloka because although it smells divine and is otherwise quality, I have a lot of trouble getting the incense to actually burn (Which is kind of the point).
