Measuring Essential Oils
By:
I'm currently looking into blending essential oils and I see recipes instructing to divide them into parts. (2 parts this oil, 3 parts that oil, etc.)

What is meant by measuring in parts? I've been told I should never measure essential oils in drops but I don't really understand how else to measure it.

Any help would be much appreciated. This is the first time I've attempted mixing and diluting oils for skin.

I personally measure in drops, but I always use the same brand with the same bottles, so the drop are always the same.

By parts, it means a quantity in relation to another quantity. So if a recipe says 1 part essential oil to 20 parts base oil, it means that is you are using 1ml of essential oil you will need 20ml of base oil. This can be done for any quantity, so 1 part and 20 parts could also be 10ml of essential oil and 200ml of base oil, etc.

It is dependent on the quantities you are wanting to use/achieve and you then need to use your own calculations.

Thank you so much! I thought to measure parts in drops, but I wasn't so sure after being warned against it.
