Samhain Rituals/Spells?

Samhain is coming up--well, there's still a while, I know. But I need to start planning and gathering materials for rituals or spells meant to be preformed on this day (or that are just more powerful when cast). If you have any suggestions I'd love to hear! I'd prefer anything involving spirits (clairvoyance, ect.) or otherworldly beings, but I'm open to anything and everything! Thanks!

Mabon is this weekend so i hope you found something for that [if you celebrate it anyway, it's my favourite Sabbat but many overlook it because Samhain is the fun one] if not it's also called the witches thanksgiving, it's a time of balance and giving thanks. Take time to do some fall cleaning, give thanks, give to a food bank, have a feast, and basically reflect on you Year up until now and enjoy the fruits of your labour. [TheWhiteWitchParlor has some video lists of ways to celebrate Mabon as well as Samhain if you would like]

As for Samhain it's a time to reflect on the year, say goodbye to those you lost in that time, hold space for any departed loved ones who may visit [look into perhaps having a Dumb Supper for your spirit friends who may visit] divination, making plans for the new year. These are a few things you could try along with typical Halloween fair like dressing up and carving pumpkins [it is believed by some you should choose a costume that symbolizes what you want out of the coming year. Last Samhain I was a chameleon because I wanted to bring change into my life. I feel it worked. Don't know what I should do this year lol] since Samhain is so popular I'm sure you can find plenty of resources online to give you a few ideas. Llewellyn Publishigs has a series on each of the 8 sabbats, each goes into the history, various ways people celebrate today, rituals, spells, recipes, and divinations for the specific sabbat.

Based on the preferences you stated, you might want to do some divination. I'm planning on doing some divination on Samhain myself to try to get some ideas of how the next year will go and what I personally need to work on during that time. Some people call on spirits to aid in divination, if you're comfortable with that.

A few divination techniques that are easy to get supplies for:

Cards: Tarot is a popular choice, but I know some people use playing cards if you don't have a Tarot deck but resonate with the card idea.

Pendulums: I like to use pendulums to delve into my subconscious (if I'm subconsciously leaning toward a decision, I'll accidentally make the pendulum swing in that way). I've also used to to commune with spirits. My first pendulum was just a pebble glued to a string, and you can also use a necklace.

Scrying: Although some people use fancier tools for this (which is fine - whatever feels right for you!) you can also just fill a dark bowl with water, dim or turn off the lights, light a candle, and stare into the water.
