Invoke a god or goddess

What's it like to invoke a god or goddess and what happens? I found the invoke Aphrodite spell. Aphrodite has always been my favorite Greek goddess even on the TV show Hercules The Legendary journey in the 90s Aphrodite was always my favorite.

I would advise learning about Aphrodite before calling upon her or trying to take her into yourself. Not her pop culture representation, her actual cults, stories, and epithets. As well as her lovers, children, grandchildren, both of her birth stories, her symbols, etc. I'll drop you some good informational links on this Hellenic Goddess below.

Do note that I am putting them in order of credibility. I still added the Wikis as they have sources listed at the bottom you can back trace to check the validity. The Wikis do have some information the others do not cover that are still credible but always do your resrearch and take things with a grain of salt as with anything. The last one seems like it might interest you too as it explains the difference with invoke and evoke which can be helpful to have on hand.

What would be a good deity to invoke, in your opinion, because mine would be Ares.

Asderl, the answer to your question is which deity the person is working with, has established a relationship with, and knows thoroughly about.

Invocation should not be done without purpose.

If you even have to ask that question, then you are not ready. Prsona gave good advice, I'd take it. If Enyalius is the Theoi you are closest to I would start by honoring him with prayer, offering, and acts in his name. It would also be wise to study him and his other aspects aside from war. As many have the misconception that is the only thing he does and the only function he serves. Which is misguided at best and highly offensive at worst.

Look into his lovers both divine, semi-divine, and mortal. Learn the names of his children, learn both of his birth stories, read up on his epithets and surnames. What is the name of his spear? What other weapons is he known to use? Which other members of the Theoi has he made close friendships with? Where were his cults located? Where was he said to be born? How do you properly pronounce his name? What are traditional offerings for him? Are you able to recite any of his hymns for him?

What were the names and roles of his Priests? What colors did they wear and what sort of sacrifices did they give to him? What animals are sacred to him and why? When were his holidays and what were they celebrating? How is he traditionally described as looking? These are all important questions to be able to answer if this is a God you wish to get close with and evoke/invoke in the future. I hope this helps you.
