Benefit of Oils

I just started using oils to help soothe certain things. If I miss something please let me know, I'm still learning and I hope this helps for some you.

Lemon Oil - Great for cleaning, adding to tea or water. Lemon oil can also be added to laundry to help sanatize. It's also used as a detox for your body, making you feel more refreshed and energized.

Pepperment - An old oil used to awaken the mind, this oil soothes headaches and muscle aches. Add a drop to the back of your neck and apply to your temples for a relaxing tingle and inhaling it slowly. You can also add it to teas to help stomach aches, defusing the oil will help you wake up and feel refreshed in the morning.

Lavander - You can defuse this oil at night to promote sleep, it is very useful if you suffer from insomnia, add a few drops to a hot bath to help you relax before bed, this will also soothe aching
muscles. It also soothes bug bites, making them itch-less and reduces the swelling.

Frankincense - A very old oil used for centuries (not sure the exact date, probably egyptian times?) This is a great oil if you suffer from migraines, add a drop to your thumb, place your thumb on the top of your moth for a few minutes, and let it soothe your migraine, I use this a lot since I am prone to severe migraines, it also soothes sore throats, you can mix with water in a spray bottle and spray on the back of your throat. You can add a drop to your water everyday for it to boost your immune system, it's great for those who have a low immune system and get sick constantly.

Melaluca - I don't know much about Melaluca, but it's great for ear infections, it's an antifungal oil, add a drop or two on a cotton ball and hold to your ear canal over night, it will relieve the pressure from the ear infection and help clear it up in a few days. I use this when I start to feel slight pressure, and it has helped me in the past.

Oregano - This is considered as a HOT oil, delute before using with coconut oil, olive oil, or avacado oil, if you do not delute it can burn the skin or irratate the skin. This oil is good for cooking, you can add a drop to your water for a healthy immune system, you can use it to clean, or add it to veggie capsules (empty capsules used for oils) for a healthy respatory system.

Rosemary - Also great for cooking, you can add this to your shampoo or conditioner to help hair growth and prevent grayness. It's also believed to prevent baldness, but I never met anyone to back me up on that.

Cederwood - This has many issues, it can be an anti inflammatory, anti fungal, it can help gums, helps toothaches when mixed with toothpaste. You can defuse this and it will help you focus on daily tasks, like lemon it will also detox your body, soothes bug bites, soothes rashes.

Recipe for an anti itch "stick" for bug bites.

3 drops of lavander
3 drops of peppermint
2 drops of frankencense
2 drops of melaluca
2 drops of lemon

Add drops to a small roll-on bottle, fill to the top with coconut oil, apple when needed. (Bug bites, poison ivy, poison oak, poison sumac, etc)

Thank you, ShadowBonder, for taking the time to pass on information about essential oils! They can be a wonderful and beneficial tool to use for many things! I would like to add a few things to your wealth of information. Having blended and used essential oils for many years myself, I would like to point out that it is common practice to dilute all of the oils with a carrier oil of personal choice (some of the most common and easily found are sunflower oil and sesame oil, but there are many different ones to choose from!).

This dilution provides a couple of benefits. First and foremost, it greatly lessens the chances of skin irritation caused by placing the oil directly onto skin. Nobody wants to get an initial rash or burn from using it! And some people can even develop a permanent sensitivity to different ones when used over time, which means that after a while of using it full strength on the skin, they will start to develop a contact rash whenever they apply it. Secondly, since most essential oils are rather expensive, it is more cost effective to dilute them, especially since doing so does not change the properties or the effectiveness of the essential oils in any way. Usually less is more!

And I also want to mention that if you decide to use the oils full strength, you should never use essential oils on any sensitive parts of the skin where it is particularly thin (eye lids, etc.) or on mucous membranes. Doing so will most likely cause more harm than good! Also, if you are taking medication, either prescribed or OTC, you should consult your physician or pharmacist before using any essential oil to make sure that the combination won't decrease the effectiveness of your medicine or cause harmful or unwanted reactions. Safety first!

Thank you for bearing with me as I add my two cents' worth to your lovely post!
