Throughout my years of studying and practicing, incorporating music within the magickal practice is actually quite ancient. The Tibeteans (sp?) use singing bowls, which act as a sort of bell when meditating, Indian tribes used to drumming and rattles to achieve a certain state of mind. The main purpose was to reach an "beta" mind state that would be extremely effective in aiding them into bringing out an energy within themselves.

Here is a point which I tested. I took a normal love spell and performed it to a loving way, chanting predicting, concentrating the full package but it was not feeling asif it was full, so I added a few tones to it, the results: fuller epic results with more feeling. So I think music does have a influence to magic..

I have long thought music has a place in magic, anything which is created by the practitioner themselves is connected to their being in an intimate way. If this creation was developed with intent and arises out of the unconscious you potentially have a powerful tool in my opinion.

Music is used in many group rituals, Crowley's rites of Eleusis are one example, others include the sabbat celebrations of the various sects of British derived witchcraft.

Personally my creative element lies in writing, I write poetry to include in my personal rituals, I am not a person who believes every spell should rhyme, however, a nice rhythm, the perfect energy, the ability to manipulate the right sounds with the right associations e.g. harsh sounds for projective forces, soft sounds for a subtle effect, and the inclusion of specific imagery and metaphor all have their place in ritual.

I think the process must be the same for music, certain sounds bring to mind certain emotions, certain thoughts. The minor chords generally bring up sadness, thoughtfulness etc., the major chords often bring up light-hearted feelings and feelings of joy. The temp can effect the speed, the rhythms and mental states of a practitioner.

Hadit, you are more correct than you may realise! As you say, a spell does not need to rhyme, neither does poetry.But each has a rhythm. And rhythm is itself, musical. Most of Shakespeare does not actually rhyme, but it has a rhythm.
"Now--is the winter of our discontent--made glorious summer -- by this--son--of York". That is surely music!

I definitely believe music has a strong place in witchcraft. I was taught to always chant your spells if possible, or to use trance music (like drumming etc) before doing magic if you're not incorporating it in your magic, I even sometimes use trace music in-between readings if my energy gets low, as it helps me tune into spirit.

Crystal, witchcraft has nothing to do with spells! My witch teacher never cast a spell in her life! Neither have I. I know many witches who do not cast spells.
Witchcraft deals with magic. A spell is trying to obtain magic!

For and example: here where I am in the southern part of the hemisphere the use of the drum is vital. In Africa music is vital to the performing of rituals in traditional healing being natural or spell bound and other sorts of intelligence. Here music is the main source of performing a quality and perfect form of results. The drum, the melody, the rhythm.
