Hi. Another newbie here, and the question is the same as many others that have been asked, "Where do I start?" I know there are a lot of books and websites I can go to , my question is, out of all the information available, what one book or website would you recommend to start with? What will help someone who is completely new to this? Also, where should I go to buy the materials I need, and what are most important? I will need everything, candles, herbs, cauldrons, an alter.....

I have some advice, but it is not the best. However, you requested it therefore, i feel i must offer it to you. My suggestion is to start out practicing meditating. Also, if you need supplies, we have a store on this website and you can ask your parents to help aid you. If you are looking for books, go onto a bookstores website, and type in the keywords you are looking for. If you find something that you think will help you the most, look at the amount of stars it has and the reviews. then decide from there. I suggest that if you are just starting out, start out with, as i suggested earlier, meditating and maybe a few small spells. If you are looking for the spell that will work best for you, then try getting a notebook, and a pen, and creating your own spells to use. This is all the advice that i have. I hope it was helpful.
Blessed Be.

You might want to start right here in the Wicca forum on SOM. Check out the thread "What Wicca Is and Isn't". Then read through the sub-threads in the Wicca Basics" thread. I think you'll find a lot of information there that will help.
If I could suggest one book to start it would be "A Witch Alone" by Marian Green

Thank you very much. I had to giggle a bit when you suggested to have my parents help. I guess I am a little old to by starting out (42) and I have had an immense interest in everything paranormal and to do with the occult since I was very young. I guess the call became too strong so I decided to answer.

Thanks Lark. That is excellent, I will start with,"A Witch Alone". Before I begin however, I am trying to unlock my aura. I feel this is important for me and should start me on the right path.

Auras aren't locked. They are simply the energetic body that surrounds your physical body. Did you perhaps mean your chakras instea
D?

I started with 'Wicca for Beginners' by Thea Sabin which I found very useful. As for materials, check local occult stores, thrift stores or natural health stores for herbs, cauldrons, candles etc. An athame is also extremely important for a Wiccan, although I made my own from wood, you can use whatever you want (normal kitchen knifes etc.). The handle should be black and it should be double edged. As well, if you can have some part in making it it strengthens the bond between you and your athame. You can find more info online about athames. Also, don't forget to consencrate your tools before using them!

Tools are just a way to direct energy, so they are really not needed. Your most important tools are visualization, intent, and focus. Also, a wand or athame can easily be replaced by your finger when directing energy. Just a thought. Blessed Be.
