Romani People --> Jobs

What did the Roma do to survive? Dress making? Are the palm and tarot readings that they did an actual thing, or is that something that was later fictionized? I know they often made a living doing things they were good at. What all does that entail?

Sorry to all if I happen to sound like a total ignorant idiot. I won't deny that I have very limited information on them. In fact, I happen to be writing a term paper on them for my Writing 121 class. Any and all information I get would be extremely helpful for this topic.
