My post wasn't directed to you, Vanity, if you took it that way. I was not suggesting you were wrong or that you need to study more. It was a broad and open-ended statement I made, intended for readers who come to this thread to pause for a moment and think upon. However, in lieu of that, let me provide some sources:

Here's two interesting articles, talking about the history of demonic possession as well as psychology today and modern views on the matter:

Here's a long forum post from SoM that covers several aspects:

And here is a piece of the catholic encyclopedia, pertaining to possession:

I do not think any of the links I provided deny the possibility of possession or demons. In fact, many (such as the catholic encyclopedia, heavily believe in it). People have differing views on demons and demonic possession. I was simply sharing my belief: that yes there are possessions, but they are not always the root of something.

I think it is plausible that possessions may have been mistaken for mental illness and vice versa. As noted in the medical article, many of the symptoms are parrallel between the two. It would be easy to make a mistake. I'm not doubting that at all. Neither do I doubt that there are demons will ill-intent. I am sure there are. However, like I said, I do not believe them to all be as such. Nor do I think it is necessarily in their nature. It comes down to personal beliefs and religious associations, I suppose. While some would view all demons as evil entities, I tend to view them as spirits, each as an individual with a capacity for either "right" or "wrong", "good" or "evil", if you want to use those terms.

When it comes to possession, like I said, I do extend a sympathetic hand. From accounts I've read or heard of, it can be quite disasterous. I sympathize with individuals who have experienced it, whether first hand or through a loved one. I imagine it would be hard to cope with, possibly difficult to move on from and forget. I don't doubt that it happens. And I feel for those whom it happens to.

Oh no. I understand you weren't directing that at me. I was responding openly yet letting you know more as to my experiences and where what I know comes from.

My true form has tons of natural power and could probably crush a demon on the astral plains.
