@Nitemarez I don't really know if that would be correct. These individuals are supposed to be able to take the form of a particular animal on the astral plane. I don't really think that would be considered shapeshifting. The physical form doesn't change only the astral or the spiritual. Then again maybe my definition of shapeshifting is different from your own. Agree to disagree I suppose.
When I think of the term "shapeshifting" I relate it to the physical transformation of an individual, like that of the werewolves in folklore. This of course is impossible.
from what i read, therians were shapeshifters of the old religions. but that could mean something else than the literal shapeshifting that connects in our brains. a therian is somebody who can do this, i am not saying that i believe in it. or at least what it suggests. but that is what it is known to be so i hear.
Animalism, even scientifically, is recognized as the oldest form of magic. You're not alone. Since time began some people have identified closer with animals better than they identify with their own skin. To this day in some tribes, to become a Shaman you must possess an animal spirit. Perhaps you are just an old soul who already carries an animal spirit with you. Treasure it. It's rare and beautiful you can connect with the wolf that way.
I would say that you are a Therian.
I am also a therian. a wolf, for that matter.
Therians are people who are born feeling that inside they are wolves, but outside they are human flesh and blood. Similar to people who feel they were born into the wrong gender.
I've also had vivid wolf dreams, I sleep curled up, I whine when I'm afraid, I yelp when I'm startled, and I can growl.
I would suggest looking here at this article. If you don't identify with this, then you probably are not a therian. http://main.otherkinalliance.org/articles/specific-otherkin/skinside-out-defining-therianthropy/
