Keep in mind everything is possible to an extent, if it's tangible, it's possible (physically), and if it's intangible, it still possible (in the wonderful world of perception and thought).
Instead of telling them it's impossible, perhaps we could explain how it is possible.

First off, Zebrah is right, if you couldn't time travel, we'd all be stuck, and that isn't happening anytime soon.

Secondly, what Zebrah speaks of is just the present, or what is *now*. I'd like to elaborate on the earlier mentioned, "not physically possible"... The concept of time travel is typically thinking about hopping in a some funny looking, poorly built machine, and shooting through some random wormhole created in the fabric of space just by pushing a little button. It doesn't physically work that way. However, as with anything, time travel can be experience simply through thought, and visualization. People talk all the time about "past life regressions", well if it's from the past, then the knowledge and experience of it somehow made its way here. In this example, a person will access memories that do not currently belong to their physical existence and use them to piece together what it could have been like before the last time they "died".
This is time travel. It is the very concept that a person uses to imagine a time they didn't experience physically.
It could also be simple memories from your childhood. Every time you think back, your mind is shooting through the tangible space of your subconcious and observing a time that is long passed.

Whilst travelling into the future is theoretically possible you would need to be travelling at 99.9% the speed of light. As the speed of light is the universal speed limit time aboard the craft you were travelling in would slow down. This is to proctect the speed limit e.g if someone aboard walked from the back to the front of the craft they would have accidently broke that limit. Time slows down to compensate for that. After a year aboard maybe 2 earth years have passed. You have travelled 1 year into the future as you have only aged 1 year. Travelling back is different altogether and is generaqlly considered impossible by quantum physicists. They are however open to the possibility that worm holes may be a way. As yet worm holes are theoretical, general concensus is that they exist but have not been proved as yet, So in answer to your question get youself a flux capacitor, a delorian and try to find a Dr Emmet Brown aka doc and a bloke called marty mcfly, i am sure they can help :-)

Like i said it is only theoretical. You could also orbit a blackhole at the closest point before you are sucked in. The gravitational forces at work have the same effect and slow down time apparently. If you are interested check out

Fascinating stuff it even talks about the ship you mention.

Agreed. Black holes are a particularly favorite subject. The shear power, topped with how they work is very intriguing indeed.

I have heard a couple of theories about black holes. Information cannot be destoyed, much like matter. So when something goes into a black hole what happens to the information? One theory is that it stays on the event horizon of the black hole and becomes 2 dimensional instead of 3 dimensional. I have even heard it banded about that some physicists believe the universe could actually just be a projecion of sorts, a hologram almost, being projected from the event horizon of a distant black hole. That's what i like about quantum physics almost anything is feasable. You should check that link i posted earlier there was a full series of Steven Hawkings' Universe on a few different topics.

In my opinion, Time Travel is Impossible. Everything in existence is Energy. This Energy is currently progressing and interacting. It's theoretically impossible for a single person to rewind the movement patterns of an infinite amount of Energy to a point it was in the past. It detinitely makes you think, though.
