The problem is that many people, particularly those who are younger, think that all there is to working magic is saying a few words from a spell they found on the internet and lighting a few candles. But in order for magic to be effective there is a great deal more that you need to know and master before your magic is going to consistently work. And that may be why your little sister is not having success with her spells. You keep talking about how YOU have had success and that YOU know the basics..but has your sister truly mastered the steps to effective magic? Your question after all was about why her spells don't work..not why your spells do work.

There are some books on spellwork that I always recommend to my own students to help them understand how and why magic works so that they are capable of consistently working successful spells. Here's my list:

"Before You Cast a Spell" by Carl McColman
"Spells and How They Work" by Janet and Stewart Farrar
"Modern Magick" by Donald Kraig
"The Veil's Edge" by Willow Polson

Perhaps when your sister understands how and why magic works and masters the necessary steps to create successful spellwork her spells will work as well.

Thank you Lark. I think I'll look up those books as well. They sound interesting.
