poppet question

okay so on another forum there was a comment that when poppets are more anatomically correct that they are more effective but i saw somewhere else that you can make them be circles or squares, to simplify it. or something that symbolizes them, example: a bone shape poppet for your dog. my question is would that lessen or strengthen the effect of the poppet or rather have no effect on the power of the poppet at alll?

I've never really used poppets in my work. However, I would assume that as long as you have strong visualization and focus on the purpose of the intended use of the poppet then the shape shouldn't matter. Why not try a few different ones and see which works best for you.

Fairheart the way I was always taught by my High Priestess is that Poppets are a form of sympathetic magic. Being part of sympathetic magic the closer the item looks to the target the better the magic will work. Therefore if you are making one for your dog then make a poppet in the shape of the dog. For a man or woman then make the poppet in the shape of a man or woman with proper genitalia and such. Adding personel concerns such as nail clippings, hair, fur, clothing, etc will even strengthen that bond. Ummmm....also another popular practice in Hoodoo is to baptize the doll or in the craft to name the doll. To do so is to say something like "This is not a waxen image, but this is (name). I name you (name) You are (name)."
