I have dealt with entities that are just hanging around. I was even told I was possess by one, the reality is that is not that they are in me but around me. Most entities do not get into some one body just like that. There are stages to begin with.. and mostly it is not that you are not in control but that you are "under the influence" of one probably caused by fear or anger.. or some strong emotion close to the ones i just mention (this my speculations only). It is similar as to those people with an addiction, their changes are drastic.
