The evil eye is believed almost all around the world and in my belief it started in India and when the Gypsies travelled but it is also in the Holy bible and other Holy books that believe in one god so guess what that means? it means that Jews,Muslims,Christians etc....
Here is how people believe that they get the evil eye. It is believed that it is caused by envy by having a certain something that someone else has such a car, house, livestock, beauty, health, and offspring for example "Oh I wish I had that car, why does she get to have it." Have you ever seen someone that was beautiful or a cute baby? we all have and we can't help but stare but people in many cultures they believe that it can give you the evil eye. I bet your wondering how it feels and that varies by the person for some it is a headache, disease, losing luck, and sometimes even death when I get the evil eye I get the biggest baddest headache in the world and my mom has to say some prayer which I can't learn unless a man teaches me but I must say that it works .
Barbara hurdas: Who is mostly affected? Most people say that is the babies and small children. Infact in many of those cultures it is bad to compliment a small child or baby therefore you will never here someone say "Oh how what Beautiful child" instead you will here "What an ugly child I'm so sorry."
The Muslims say Masha'Allah which means "God has willed it" and I have heard my grandma say it to me now we aren't muslim but our family is really mixed and lived in many places so for a long time it was my favorite word it still is but many times my mom has told me its meaning. Jewish people say Kain ayin hara meaning "No evil eye".in Yiddish. Then in some places they wear talismans (I have a lot myself from around the world) you have things like the hand of Fatimah(Muslims)
and a hand of Miriam (Jewish) here is how it looks

The Greeks and Turkish people have a lot of things that they wear and you can go www.evileyestore.com
Barbara hurdas: The Italians wear a Cornetti or in other words a horn or a hand

BarbieQueen, that information was so interesting...I have NEVER been able to do a tea reading. Which is a shame because I love tea and I drink it all the time!! LOL, I would REALLY love to be able to do that type of reading. Of course, I couldn't read my own. I can read Tarot Cards for others wickedly accurate but I can't do a reading for myself to save my life...
