A Lycanthrope is a person that can change into a wolf. The term werewolf, which I believe is a combination of a word meaning man and the other meaning wolf(Correct me if I'm wrong). Werewolves were believed to go steal peoples cattle and sheep. They were also believed to run off with people's wives and kids during The Middle Ages. People back then were very superstitious and uneducated. Whenever there was a murder and they couldn't figure out who did it they thought, "It must be a werewolf" that is why wolves are on the endangered species list. Also, there is a mental disorder called clinical Lycanthrope, where a person believes he/she is a werewolf but, they are not and no transformation actually occurs. It is impossible to turn yourself into a werewolf physically but, if you want to look up mental shapeshifting. If you try a mental shapeshifting spell you can mentally acquire the attributes of a wolf but no physical transformation happens. Try looking up The Berserkers, this is a really good example of this. Others have mentioned the definition, so I will post my opinion. Physical change is more than likely impossible, but I believe (Mostly out of my stubborness to refuse werewolves don't exist) that it could be possible, but I would imagine that a sudden change like that would be too great for our hearts to handle, so then end result would be death. However there could be a chance that if someone survived they could bite others (Normal folklore of how werewolves infect others) and could create more only for most to die. If there are/were werewolves there is more than likely chance we won't ever see them, for very low numbers or not existing. I still must disagree, you make a very good point of what would happen and I completely agree with that, but I still have a believe it's possible, it may not be in there form we think it is, but it may be possible. It very well could be past our knowledge.
