Ever since I was very young (before teen years) I've had this feeling of falling almost everytime I went to sleep. Now that I am older it comes less frequenttly but I donot fall anymore. I fly. Above mountains and through many scenaries, but it still happens without my effort.Am I Astral Projecting? And if so, what is the use of astral projection and how can I use it consciously?
Well most recently I feel myself floating or flying up a mountain side but very quickly and without any problem. I can see and feel everything. I see the flowers and feel the slight fear, then I tell myself not to be afraid and the fear leaves. I was afraid of heights since a child, because of an expeience with a demom that tried to push me over a volcanoes edge for what ever reason. Anyhow when I get to the top I see valleys and rivers and the tips creeses and edges of the mountains I move across. And now that i think back, I did see a line that I seem to be traveling along but I didnt know where I was.I kept wondering ' what is this line doing all the way up here? I had never been in that place before. I flating forward and saw much more and a bit after I woke up.
Hope this helps to add clarity.
It sounds like a Lucid Dream/Astral Travel. Astral travel you have a chord connecting your soul to your body. But you should see yourself (on the bed, or wherever you left your body.) and then the Astral Plane, I myself have not been, so I don't know what it would look or feel like.

To my experience the "cord" part is not always there and it is not some sort of umbilical cord between the soul and the body. You will not die if it is severed. Generally, you'll just feel pretty messed up.
I have read more of the astral cord being used as a "lifeline" within old 2nd edition DnD resources than I have in anything about exploring other realms.
That being said, there are often "cords' of energy that can be observed connecting our spirits to any object, person, or place that we have a strong emotional connection to. This would very much include your body.
