This is an article on how to make your own sage smudge stick.

You will need western or desert sage, garden clippers, some strong string, and some news paper.

Cut the sage until its about 7 to 10 inches in length. Cut the string so it is 2 1/2 times the length of the sage. Hold about three sticks sage together and begin wrapping the string around it from the bottom. When you reach the top reverse direction. Once in reaches the bottom tie the ends together. Next take the news paper and place the sage 1/4 the way up from the bottom. With firm pressure, roll the sage inside the news paper until it is used up. Trim the edges and let it dry for about a week.
