What is Aromatherapy?

Aromatherapy is a form of holistic healing that utilizes the natural oils and extracts from plants to promote well-being and better health. It uses the oils to help heal both an individual's physical health amd emotional health. (Body, mind, and spirit.) Aromatherapy has been used to help with better sleep, stress relief, energy boosts, and all manner of things in between.

How does it work?

It works via the absorption of oils through the skin or by smell. It can be utilized in a few different ways such as:

  • Diffusers and spritzers
  • Bath salts and bath oils
  • Creams and lotions
  • Essential oils (on their own without being combined with one of the other methods.)
  • Compresses
  • Steamers
  • Masks

These can be combined or used as stand alone methods for the benefits of aromatherapy. When inhaled, they can help with respiratory issues (decongestant and disinfectant) and help promote psychological wellbeing. When inhaled, they stimulate our olfactory system and can have an effect on the limbic system. The limbic system has links to several things: our emotions, blood pressure, heart rate, stress levels, etc. In this way, by inhaling vapors, steam, etc we they are having a subtle, holistic healing impact on our bodies.

When applied to the skin, it is absorbed and can add to the speed of absorption and increase circulation.
