On this site I hear from a lot of young people and others practicing alternative spirituality who struggle with disapproving family members. Others including myself practice in the "broom closet" i.e. secretly to avoid repercussions. I hear about magical tools and books being taken away, being told they worship the devil, threats of being kicked out, even being sent to a religious camp.

Cambridge dictionary defines tolerance as "willingness to accept behavior and beliefs that are different from your own, even if you disagree with or disapprove of them." Acceptance is defined as "general agreement that something is satisfactory or right, or that someone should be included in a group." Basically, acceptance is agreeing, and tolerance is allowing what you don't agree with.

  • How open are you in person about your spiritual and magical practices?
  • To what extent do you all feel tolerated or accepted by family and peers?
  • How do you feel about being tolerated versus accepted?
  • How much spiritual freedom do you think parents should give their children?
  • To what extent do you feel your views are tolerated on SoM?
  • Do you feel victimized by discrimination in other ways?

Please feel free to add more about your views.
