Focus your eye on the energy source you want to receive energy from. Imagine white smoke coming out of the source's body and into your hands, do this until satisfied.. Practice makes perfect.

does it actually work?

It's one way to visualize energy, but as it says, you need to practice. This would be easier if you're already proficient with energy work. It will take practice, and you probably won't physically see the energy, but you should feel it being absorbed into your body.

It will take time, but this can work. You should be able to charge and ground energy before attempting it. Hopefully, you can either see auras or feel the energy in an object. Being able to do so will increase your chances at success.
