A lot of energy? I casted a spell and it worked great but felt weak for two days straight, nearly fell ill.

It depends on the spell, but yes some can take a lot of energy to cast. This is why it's important to raise energy before casting so you don't end up using a lot of your own personal energy.

If you are using your personal energy to power a spell then it is very likely it is going to leave you feeling drained or even sick. Most spellcasters don't draw on their own energy for that very reason. Here's a description of how to draw on the energy all around you from the earth and the heavens above to do any sort of magical working, and keep your personal energy out of the mix.

As mentioned above, it depends on the spell and what energy you're using. We have magickal energy inside us, but draining that energy can leave us lethargic. You should raise energy from outside yourself. As for how much, it depends on the spell. You might do a monthly protection or a weekly cleansing that requires nothing more than focusing on your goal. A spell to curse someone's family would require a lot of energy [these types of spells are best done by covens so it's not one person being drained] Your average spell isn't too much of a drain, just practice energy work before attempting [I've been practicing for a long time, but I'd say my average spell requires about 5 minutes of energy work, but that would include casting time] Also, if a spell requires items, these items contain magickal energy and aid the spell. Don't go too overboard with items and don't rely solely on items, but it can reduce the energy required.
