Divination is tapping into knowledge by some form of magic in order to discover information about the nature & condition of things.

Common names would be: Fortune telling, prophecy, prediction, soothsaying, clairvoyance, & Second sight

Some examples of divination would be:
-Astrology: Is interpreting the movement of celestial bodies.
-Augury: Is reading omens from an observed flight of birds.
-Scrying: Is foretelling the future by using a reflective surface.
-Palmistry: Is reading the lines of palms.
-Numerology: Is using the symbolism of numbers.
-Pyromacy: Is gazing into fire.
-Tasseomancy: Is reading tea leaves.
-Cartonancy: Is using cards like tarot, Oracle, or Lenormand.
-Rune Casting: Is using runic symbols such as the Elder Futhark Or Celtic Ogham.
-Pendulum: Is using suspended weight to answer yes or no questions.

The purpose of divination is to gain insight and influence decisions.

Divination is key practice in both modern and ancient witchcraft. Many historic societies, oracles, & seers throughout that practice led divination were highly regarded by rulers & the community. The Aztecs, Greeks, Romans & Ancient Chinese are a few examples of societies that relied heavily on magical predictions.

The once famous occult leader Aleister Crowley named that divination to be as one of the most important techniques of his magical teachings.

Divination also continues to evolve with society. The new age magic reflects the modern lifestyle with the techniques like the use of stargazing/dice apps, scrying on digital screens, pop art tarot cards, cybermancy, & more.
