Elements & Us
By: Moderator / Adept

This is another fun discussion, I thought we could have. This is meant to share experiences and our thoughts on the matter.

These days, it seems I see the topic ofworking with the elements popping up more and more. So, with that in mind, is there a specific element or elements that you personally feel a connection with? Do you work with them in magic and spellwork, and if so, how do you incorporate their energies into your work?

I used to think that because I do not set a space for element representations on my altar that I didn't work with them.

I have come to view things differently. I think we all work with the elements in one way or other even if we do not do this actively.

I often use stones for scrying and healing purposes. This is working relatively closely with the Earth element.

I often utilize candles in spellwork and much of the time I am meditating upon the flame. This too utilizes fire in a magical way.

I may not leave salt, a bowl of water, a candle, and incense upon the altar, but yet still the elements are well represented on it despite this. Incense, stones, candles, and holy water and homemade perfume represent water within my work. All elements are represented.

Smudging a space using a feather works with and directs air. And so on.

My use of elements simply doesn't relate exactly to the Wiccan view, yet I still work with them, in my own way.

The elements I feel personally drawn to are earth and fire.

Similar to the above, I also relate more with fire and earth. Back in 2014 I attended a fire workshop here in England, where the priestess lead us through a lecture about how to connect more with this element.

That said, element work is something im very new to. Currently its understanding the various religions and how views of the elements differ from each other. For example, in some parts of the world only four elements are recognized.

In others, five are represented such as earth, air, fire water and spirit. Has anyone here in this thread found a system that works for them and if so, what was it?

Ale,

I use two systems myself. A more Western system that utilizes four of the typical elements found in Western culture, it excludes spirit, as that has never really been my tradition.

And also when I utilize feng-shui in my daily life I use the five Chinese elements which makes use of metal and wood for example.

I find both these systems work for me personally.

Feng Shui is a beautiful system! My mother practiced this back when she was alive. Its something I remember seeing in a book about it years ago.

Although I did find it a little complicated, but I especially loved how everything has its place ensuring the home is left tidy and orginised.

Just had a look at your blog just now, really love the post about blueberry waffles. They look delicious!

The element I utilize the most in my work is the Sun. For cleaning my crystals, meditating by the sunlight and even charging my energies. One thing I should mention is that my prefered orientation of meditation is south, where the sun is most visible during the day. But of course, we all have different ideals and guidance on what we should do in our spiritual path.
