I'm wondering how long It would usually take a beginner to astral project. I just started trying yesterday and I want to know the general amount of time it takes so that I don't just end up stop trying because of failed attempts and not knowing how long I have to work.
Short version: If after a month you still have not had a successful projection you should step back and try lucid dreaming. Make sure you have protection during your astral projections!!
Personally, I didn’t didn’t attempt astral projection until almost six months of practicing lucid dreaming. Once I could control my dreams with ease I started trying to astral project. My first successful projection happed a week or two after I began practicing. (If you are naturally a lucid dreamer the process will be much quicker)
If you are trying to astral project for a specific reason that cannot be accomplished by lucid dreaming, I would be happy to further discuss a way to accomplish this. Otherwise I would try to lucid dream first, you dong have to practice for six months but I think at least a week or two of successful dreams before moving to astral projection.
In addition you should always take precautions before attempting astral projection. This can be in the form of a charm that you wear while sleeping, incense you burn, or a powder or oil that you smell and anoint yourself or bed with. Of course these are not the only options, but the ways that I have had most luck with and I would be happy to give you recipes/spells for them!
Astral projection isn't really a beginner friendly topic, in my experience. That being said, there are a few things you should or can do first that will make projection easier when the time comes.
First, make sure you have proper protections up. This is key to any magical working.
Second, try lucid dreaming first. This helps the body get used to an altered state. Along with this, I'd work on researching how to raise your vibrations and how to sense energy, as these are both components of astral projection.
If despite all efforts astral projection isn't working for you, it could be that your sessions aren't long enough and you aren't being patient enough. This takes a lot of time to master, so don't be discouraged if it takes a while. Remember, every witch is different and works at different speeds. There is no "right" amount of time to accomplish this in.
