The first step would be to tailor his resume/CV to the specific position he is applying for. When dealing with someone that has many accolades or credentials, sometimes their appearance on paper intimidates potential employers in hiring someone for a position that may be deemed "beneath them".
Lets say you are applying for a cashier position at Dunkin donuts. You have a BA in Behavioral Science and a MS in Criminal Justice. You are a licensed Social Worker and a Certified Law Enforcement Officer. None of those things have anything to do with applying for the position of cashier. So, despite not wanting to take away things you have worked hard for, in order to be considered for such a position, you will need to tailor your resume to reflect relevant information and experience to the actual position you are applying for.
This means creating a separate resume for every position he is looking to apply for and making sure in his cover letter he highlights hisexperience or indicates something on his resume that might not seem relevantand explain why it is...(example: While my BA is in Behavioral Science, this has given me the vast knowledge and experience in understanding different backgrounds and viewpoints that customers and co-workers may have which will, in turn, allow me more flexibility when dealing with stressful situations or difficultcustomers.)
In terms of magic, there are many things that can be done to aid him in his search but the key in this is to be actively searching. Casting a job spell won't do anything unless you are actively seeking employment. One of my favorite spells is the rock spell in which you will take either a business card from the place you are seeking employment, or a newspaper posting of the position (as a last resort if you do not have either, you can write on a piece of paper the position you hope to get) Wrap that to a good size rock (I usually use fist size, not too big but has some weight to it) I use paracord but any type of string or binding agent will do. If you want an incantation, you can write a spell, describing what you intentions are, give an offering to which ever deity you follow or worship and if you wish to add a candle or herbs I usually go with green (for me representing money) and I burn cinnamon(another herb used for prosperity) I keep the rock in a small satchel and leave it in my current position desk (but if you do not have an office or home position in your current employment or if you are unemployed, I would keep the rock near where you work on job searching.)
That is just one suggestion but there are a plethora of spells and suggestions on this site you can look through and modify or use to create your own spell. Good luck and hopefully something will come along that fits what he is looking for.
