Protecting an idea

I am worried that an idea that I have which could be potentially beneficial to me may be stolen by someone whom I was discussing it with. I'm not seeing off hand a protection spell for this sort of problem. Is there any suggestions anyone has where I would be the only one who would benefit from my own idea otherwise if someone else has stolen my idea it would fail for them? I know often I hear write your own spells, but it helps me to have a starting point.

Spells are not my strong point but here are a few ways to go. The US patent office or the copywrite office is the best way to protect your intellectual property. If that is not possible then you can resort to the poor mans patent. Simply place your written plan or document in an envelope and send it in the mail to yourself. When you receive it, put it away and never open it. What you now have is a dated, postmarked and sealed copy of your book or idea that can somewhat establish that you had an idea first. Is this going to hold up in court? Who knows. It would be up to the decision of the court. It is certainly more secure than electronic storage and definitely better than nothing. Hope that helps

It does help, thank you. I did already put it in the mail to myself.

Sorry, I know this is an old thread but a simple magical protection of your idea could involve putting a protective sigil over everything your idea is stored on (files, papers, notes, books, maybe even USB drives)
