A past life is exactly that, a past life.

Some people believe that a part of us lives on once the physical body dies, this part of us can move onto another life but retains memories from the past lives they have experienced.

Some people who believe in reincarnation (and many that don't) already experience deja vous when it comes to specific actions, places and journeys, some believe this to be a past life memory. Some people also experience full memories connected to a past time or past life. If you are looking to find more about your past life, I would recommend meditating on the subject and seeing what comes to you during extended periods of meditation, it is all about looking into yourself to find the memories you may contain from previous lives (if there are any).
