A Second Salem
By:

Hello! I have some questions regarding the "Second Salem"(Whitewater, WI). I was over at my sisters apartment and we were looking at all of the realtions of Whitewater to witches. I do have some questions.

1. Was "Mary Worth" really a murderous person, or just a myth?

2. Have any of you ever been to the Morris Pratt Institute?

I would also just like some general opinions/facts/theories/and information regarding Whitewaters history with witches!

I have never heard of the town you mention. I don't know the story of the woman either, however it may help for you to research her on google.

As for the place being a second Salem, understand that the history of that town is not what popular culture would like you to believe. There were few witches in Salem. I doubt there was even one actual witch. Most who were tried and executed for the crime were falsely accused and the trials were a farce of any type of justice. Most of what happened there was hysteria. Those who were accused were generally not liked by their neighbors or they had something a neighbor wanted. Land was a typical motivator for the charges to be brought. Some of those accused were women and men who were well versed in the local herbs and how they could be used to help cure the sick and help keep people health.

I know what you are talking about with the acutal Salem. But, I would like to know more about the witches of Whitewater. I've researched a bit about it, like you said hysteria. Which was kind of like what happened in Whitewater! Thank you anyways!

To be honest, after looking it up (albeit very briefly), the various concepts of Whitewater, WI seem more like a tourist trap involving minor, local historical events rather than anything of real note.
