Casting a circle

Is it necessary to cast a circle before attempting any spell? Is there a simple way of casting a circle which doesn't involve an athame, a bell, a pentagram, a chalace etc?

you don't have to cast a circle before every spell but some people choose to to clean their space and for protection. Here are 4 different circle castings that don't require any tools.

I cast this circle three times round
And by it's energy we are bound.



This circle is cast in love and light
For all who join with us tonight
I cast this circle three times three
And by my will, So Mote It Be.

Here this circle now be cast
With elements designed to last
With spark and scent and salt and sea
As I do will, So Mote It Be.

Around and around the circle is cast
Time out of time, future and past
In a place that is not a place
Between the worlds, in Sacred Space.
