For May, our Herb of the Month is Cinnamon.

Here we can collect recipes and information as well as magical, scientific, spiritual, medicinal, and mundane usages and properties of our selected herb. I would also like to get to know what Cinnamon means to some of you who do incorporate it already, or what it means to those who wish to.

Cinnamon is usually put into my spells for speed in a work. Since it's spicy, hot stuff speeds things along. Like when we take a hot bath, our blood gets circulated more. Or when we drink a lot of water, our blood gets thinner and moves a long more. I mostly have used cinnamon in money spells, and this is a great visualization of money flowing into the house.

I use cinnamon to speed up the recovery of a cold. I sprinkle ground cinnamon onto a tablespoon of honey. I make sure it covers the top. You do this once a day until your cold it gone. Don't continue it after your cold is gone because too much honey isn't good for you. DON'T overdose yourself.

I use oils with cinnamon extracts when I want to think and meditate, it has a very strong smell that helps me to get in the right mood.

Cinnamon is also very good in food and not only necessary desserts.

I use Cinnamon a lot in my cooking and I believe its properties are motivation, energy, happiness, empowerment and speed.

One way of using it could be to drink a hot drink before a job interview to give you the motivation and the empowerment to get the job, you could also add honey to sweeten the way you speak. My favourite hot drink with cinnamon in is a chia tea latte.

Other ways i use cinnamon:cupcakes, on sweet potato fries, in hot chocolate, on baked apples.

~Cold Speedy Recovery Potion~

~Ingredients~
Honey
Cinnamon
Pepperocinni Juice (Type of Pepper)
2 Mint tea bag
Hot Water
Sugar (Optional)

~First off, you want to fill a cup 3/4 of the way with water. Add 2 tablespoons of honey to the mixture and mix. Next add the Pepperocinni juice to the other ingredients. Fill it almost to the top. Seep the 2 mint tea bag for as long as you can. Make sure the bags don't rip. Sprinkle the top with Cinnamon but not too much. Add sugar for the liking. DON'T add milk or the whole drink will curdle.

~This potion may have a bad taste and if you hate spicy things, I wouldn't prefer this.

Extracting Cinnamon Oil
http://www.legionofpagans.com/herb-making/3475/how-to-make-your-own-cinnamon-oil

Method 1
Items you will need: cinnamon sticks, a glass jar, preferably amber or green with a wide mouth and straight sides (for ease in straining out the substances), and olive oil.

Steps:
1 Get enough cinnamon sticks and stuff them inside the glass jar. Fill up all the empty spaces if possible.
2 Pour the olive oil inside the jar until all of the cinnamon sticks are entirely covered.
3 Place the glass jar in a warm place such as your window. Secure it so it wont topple over. Leave the jar for about three weeks.
4 Shake thejar daily. This will release the cinnamon oil from the base oil.
5 After three weeks, the oil from the cinnamon sticks will be completely released and will be formed as cinnamon oil. Using a piece of cheese cloth or similar material, strain the cinnamon oil. You can also use your fingers to pull out the cinnamon oil from the sticks.
6 Put the cinnamon oil in an amber bottle and store it in a cool, dry place.

Method 2
Items you will need: pure virgin olive oil, cup ground cinnamon, cooking pan and gas stove or similar appliance.

Steps:
1 Heat enougholive oil in a large saut pan using medium-high heat.
2 Add cinnamon and stir to mix with the olive oil.
3 Simmer for about 3 minutes.
4 Set aside and let it cool.
5 - After the liquid has cooled enough, strain the cinnamon oil using a fine-mesh strainer lined with a coffee filter.
6 Pour the strained cinnamon oil into a sterilized airtight jar or bottle.
7 Store the cinnamon oil in a cool, dry and dark place for at least one month.

If you dont have virgin olive oil, you can substitute safflower oil.
