Hi I was looking at a few spells and I realize I need an athame but the thing is I don't know anywhere where I can buy one ( lives in Caribbean country - not too many stores if they are any I buy from)
So is there a substitute maybe or no?

If you're using it just to direct energy or cut doorways in circle you can just use your index finger or your first two fingers.

Do you have any old unused butter knives or wood handled kitchen knives? Cleanse it and charge it. Athame's are only Wiccan and are usually supposed to be dull. Traditional Witchcraft in itself and other magick paths use real knives or daggers (the sharp stuff).

Just get a regular old kitchen or butcher knife. If you don't know how to cleanse and charge it, you need to do some more reading before you start doing spells.

you can order them online, but in the interem you can dedicate any knife as long as you cleanse and consecrate it. It doesn't have to be a fancy athame. I choose to make most of my tools, I feel they are crafted with my energy infused. Hope this helps.
blessed be

An Athame is quite new to witchcraft; since Gardner/Crowley. The old witch, from ancient times, would only use a knife for cutting the stems of herbs,if the stems were to be used in a potion. They would not use the knife for any other purpose as it might "spoil" the magic of herbs. But it would be just an ordinary knife; not used in any ceremony or ritual.
My teacher formed a "protective" circle using her finger. I still do!
However, a sword has from long ago thought to have "magical" powers.

You can cleanse it by putting it in the ground for 3 days or leaving it outside during the full moon. You can find other ways on this site.
You charge it by allowing your energy (or energy that you have drawn from other places; I'll not overcomplicate this) to flow into the object
