The Wee Free Men , by Terry Pratchett (also its sequels, A Hat Full of Sky and Wintersmith )

The entire Discworld series is great, really, and I especially love (and miss!) the Lancre coven (Wyrd Sisters, Witches Abroad, Lords and Ladies, Carpe Jugulum, Maskerade) but the books with Tiffany Aching are where Pratchett re-discovered chapters. I find a lot of what he writes quite wise if it isn't smart, but if you're not one for puns or phonetic accents then it might not be entirely enjoyable.
