It should be fine. Just be careful to wash your hands off first.

Yes, it is safe to light it right away. The oil won't suddenly catch fire because generally you don't put the oil that close to the wick....and the oils you use on candles aren't that flammable either. The most flammable thing would be your base oil if you used one but it would be a slow burning thing if you used olive oil, vegetable oil, almond oil or something similar as is recommended. You'll be fine.

May I add a question to this post...

What is the correct way to dress/annoint a candle for spell casting??

I have read several things and not sure which is correct. From center up & center down... bottom to top... top to bottom?? If all are valid which method for which type of spells??

Thanks, Blessed Be.

Most books (not websites) will tell you to start in the center and go out to each end. However, it really doesn't matter how you do it. Though if you feel that isn't a good answer think of it this way:

-For general purpose candle dressing, start from the center working with both hands to the ends.

-For spells of banishing/removing/decreasing, start from the top and work your way to the bottom.

-For spells of gaining/increasing/empowering, start from the bottom and work your way to the top.

Hello,

I have bought a candle and some sandlewood essential oil and some herbs to dress my first candle, do I have to mix the sandlewood with anything?

Kind Regards,

Monday

Yes, you need to use a base oil. Olive, vegetable and almond oils are good bases for it. Do not use mineral oil as that is generally a fossil fuel by product and not natural. Any other natural oil would work well though. Shouldn't need more than a tsp of it and a couple drops of your sandalwood oil. Then you rub this mix on your candle as described above. Then sprinkle on your herbs or roll the candle in them. Most people roll them because you get good coverage that way if you have a good surface for this. I use wax paper on my work space to protect my altar. Makes for easy clean up too.

I have another question to add.
Does the color of the candle really matter while casting a spell?
