My only request is to respect the terminology of the word daemon. Using such a phrase in relation to the christianized demon brings only misconception and supposed ignorance. Daemon means spirit. Spirits were demonized by the cristian church. It is, in the very least, not polite to use such terms in all cases, as not all spirits are beings of "good" or "evil". Its really not that simple. Other than that the post did spark my interest. Quite intriguing.

If anyone wants to feel the gates of hell open they just need to come to work with me, it happens every day! :o On a more serious note while I do not study or practice any of this, and my input is limited, I would say a beautiful depiction of the gates of hell are by far the one completed by Rodin.

The only reason I bring this up or even mention this on this thread (with the exception of my lame work joke) is because of the manner in which he created them. He based his sculpture on the fictional work of Dante's Divine Comedy, more specifically the Inferno scene. I had the opportunity while visiting London in 2007 to view them in person as they were on display and they are magnificent.

The thing that is most notable is the fact that he used several influences to create them, not just the traditional Catholic belief of hell. He used Ghiberti's Gates of Paradise, parts of the Old Testament, Michelangelo's The Last Judgement and Delacroix's The Barque of Dante. With so many different influences infused it was almost like he wanted them to represent the different viewpoints.

Again I don't practice summoning or any demonic related spells, but I feel like this work of art caters to the fact that hell to many people has a different meanings and hell itself for some is evil and others is good. So in a sense Rodin created the Gates of Hell to represent many different approaches to what they might look like if they were a physical thing.

I most appreciate that he added The Thinker (which if you didn't know who Rodin was, you probably know or have seen the statue he made called The Thinker) He sits at the top looking down as if contemplating weather to enter or not, or maybe he is thinking about his life and all the choices he has made. In any sense it is a magnificent piece of work, and for those that do practice summoning and work with the gates of hell, I figured you may appreciate its beauty.

Am I the only one who thinks of how bad this could end up? Especially if the person to open them failed to contain, and send back what they allowed out? This is HELL we're talking about... Demons are a very serious matter... And the elephant in the room, if you set a devil free, it's going to end up badly.
