Wands can be made from any kind of wood. But there are specific types of wood that works best for specific tasks.
Alot of the craft has been bombbarded with cerimonial magic that was devised by fly by night self proclaimed experts in the craft.
Publishing cheap novelty books on the new age in your kitchen magic. To the "Secret of the Ancients", that have been translated from some unknown forever lost transcript.
Now cerimonial magic does have its place in the magical realm, but it does not always apply to everything.
Basicaly if you are starting in the craft and new to it, I recommend using any type of wood as long as it is removed from a living tree. Dead trees do not work. However for casting destructive spells, wood from a dieing tree is ideal.
Then after you have worked your wood and fashend it into your ideal wand charge it with a specific enchantment. (Healing wand, elemental water, elemental fire, etc...) But only use this wand for that type of spell castings.
I've made them out of black english walnut,a branch of chinese pecan, Live oak (very powerful),mandarin orange branch, I place a shaped and polished crystal on the tip and sometimes at both ends. To date the most powerful is my Live oak with a chrysopraise crystal attached I can sense its' energy at a long distance, I've been 50 miles away and when I think of my wand my body tingles all over from its energy, the reason is since I bled it when I dedicated and consecrated it the bond was formed between it and myself.

there was a bad snow storm and a huge limb from my favourite lilack tree snapped. it's not dead, cuz it cracked only half way, but in the spring i'm going to have to cut it off, i was planning to use it to make a new wand, or perhaps a staff, but i already have one i like, any suggestions, like what lilack would be bast suited for i mean.
