Looking for a Mentor??
By:
I am 17 and just starting to learn the art of witchcraft. Right now I don't have a specific religion such as Wicca or Pagan etc. I want to learn because it feels right to me and I want to learn as much as I can. I don't just want to just learn the magic but some religious sides of it as well. I know it is time consuming but I want to do it, I want to learn. I have already started to read some books on it but it's not the same like a teacher. So if I could find a teacher or mentor that I can learn under like an apprentice that would be very grateful. Online would work best unless of course you live close to where I live. Thank you

Blessed Be

Try learning as much on the basics as you can through books and internet use before you try and get a mentor. Once you've done that, and you've learned all you can possibly learn on the basics of everything you want to study, then get a mentor. It would probably be easier for anyone who teaches you that you know the basics. Oh, and you might also try looking up the witch trials in England. Also, The Salem Witch Trials. Studying this in depth really does help with your knowledge about the craft, not through rituals, spells, or anything, but it always helps to study history.

While it does help to learn history, the Salem Witch trials are not the best place to start. They often talk about how Witches are in line with the Devil and view them in a Christian manner.

I'd say to study the mythologies of Pre-Christian Europe and look up the histories, folklore, and culture of these areas to get the best idea of what Witchcraft really is.

Here is what I suggest to you. Look around the forums and read the basics there. Join a coven, many teach the basics now. Usually one does not find a mentor by simply asking, and if you do, you could very well find one who doesn't know a thing he/she is talking about. So try to learn a bit by yourself first, or join a coven, you have a lot better chance with a group of people than you do with some random stranger.

I know that about The Salem Witch Trials. I just think it's helpful to research what people believe of people who practice the craft.

People are pleny well aware of what people think of witches without researching - just ask someone who is closed minded. There are too many of those around.

i don't mind helping you if you need it. personally, i began with Raymond Bucklands book Wicca For Life. i branched out from there with a few others, but that was my footing, and i keep going back to it. if you wish to go back farther, something about Celtics or Druids. from there, i'd try and figure out what path you feel drawn to [Reiki, High Magic, Egyptian, Gypsy, Celtic, Dragon, Shaman so on] but being hands on with the religion would be best. start with meditation.
