How the Sun and Moon Came to be.

There was once two brother who lived together in the woods with the animals in the darkness. It was always dark and the brothers had a hard time seeing and hunting for food, as their eyes were not designed for the darkness. One day, the eldest brother got sick and on his death bed told his brother he would give light to the world. The eldest brother was buried under a great oak tree the following day. The next day a bright light awake the younger brother. He walked out of the cave to see the sun. He felt the warmth and heat and knew it was his brother. Later when the sun went down the darkness crept in and the youngest brother swore that when he died he'd bring light to the darkness. The dilema he had, was some of his animal brothers only come out during the total darkness while others needed some light to see and hunt. He slept and thought about how to over come this dilema, and after a week of thinking came up with a solution.
For a few days a month he'd shine bright and let his light illuminate the darkness and then slowly wane off and for a few nights, let his brothers who needed total darkness come out to play. When he died the animals of the forest wept for joy knowing his life was continuing to help them, even though his physical body was now dead. The animals put him under a Holly Tree. The following night after his brother had done his duty and moved on, the bright white light of the moon shown down and all the world could see.
To this day the Sun and Moon would forever be thanked for their noble sacrifice and the love they showed the world.

assignment: Think about this story. What pagan themes are here? What hidden symbolism is here? If there is anything you want to point out about the story, also state so.

I'm actually not sure what pagan themes are in there except maybe the dying and being reborn as something else kind of thing, and The Oak Tree(representing masculinity) and Holly Tree(representing femininity) though that might come more under symbolism.
And the Oak/sun being associatied to the male god and the Holly/moon being assoicated to the female goddess

I know I'm proberly missing missing some important points on this one but I just cant seen to put my finger on it right now.

This story actually reminds me a little bit of the story of Lucifer and Diana from Pre-Christian mythology. Because of the refrence to the sun and moon.
Where Lucifer was Diana's brother and that's where the association to the meaning of "Lucifer" meaning "Bringer Of Light" comes from.
If anyone that doesn't know the story about them I'd be quite happy to write it up on here if anyone wants to know it.

Hi nduka I'm not sure if you meant more of the story i was talking about our more of silverVixen's story, but i'll just add the short version of the story I was talking about anyway :)

Below is the story of Diana a Roman Madian Goddess of the hunt and athleticism, and one of the many moon goddesses.
there is also a whole tradition dedicated to her where they only houour female deities and all coven members are female with a High Priestess and no male power figures at all. Which is called Dianic Wicca.

DIANA'S STORY

The GoddessDiana had a brother, Lucifer, He was not a devil, but a light bringer and sun god, thus Diana and Lucifer were the sun and the moon, the perfect platonic couple.
When the earth was created by the Goddess Gaia with the help of Cronus, they both decided to live there rather than stay on Monut Olympus, the home of the gods.
Diana liked to bathe in a woodland pond, and one day, a young man, Actaeon, came acrossg her as he was hunting deer.
When Diana realised the human had seen her naked, she was furious and turned him into a stag, then set his dogs on him, killing him.
One night, forgoing her vow of chastity, Diana transformed herself into a cat(Lucifers favorite animal),went to his home and seduced him.
From that night a daughter was born Aradia. Lucifer didn't like his daughter because of the way she was conceived,so to protect her, Diana taught Aradia witchcraft and they practised only during the moonshine, when Lucifer, as a sun god, could not see them.Diana charged her daughter with teaching witchcraft to all poor and wronged humans to make up for how diana had wronged Lucifer.

Also if you want to harness Diana's power below is a chant to use if you feel tempted to go back to a bad ex or any other negative situation.

Go outside and while looking at the moon or a wild animal, say the following incantation nine times.

"Goddess Diana,strong and fair
Dont let evil intent enter my lair
Let me see their true face
Don't let me go back to this bad place
Goddess of confidence and strength
Keep this negative person(or add your situation) at arm's lenghth."
