I also have this stone

I also have this stone I've brmeen wondering about because i've had this stone for near on 10 years ago, it was given to me by my mother as part of a birthday present she said it would bring me good luck. Over the ten years I have had this stone i have lost it more time then I can count. Like on one occasion I lost it when I went tramping, I found it again 10 days later, turns out it had been washed down the river and into the city and it was scratched when I picked it back up out of the river. I took it home and the next day it wasn't scratched anymore. Any clues to why this is would be much appreciated.
