I would agree with Kyori try protection spells there are many out there and some are really simple or so u can get better at spells pratice doing psionics cause though it may seem hard at first its a great way to learn how to direct energy for when you do harder spells.
Yeah everyone should know the dangers of black magic but she can learn that as well as the directing of energy to a spell cause if she doesn't know how to direct her energy its just going to go everywhere possibly coming back on her in a bad way.

How do you know if the protection spells work?
Also when you write your own spells, do they have to rhyme? Are there any special rules to writing your own spells?

Okay, well, first of all it's kind of hard to tell whether a protection spell has worked or not. I guess the primary thing is that you are better protected. Yes, haha hard to explain.
Spells don't have to rhyme, however they do work better when they do. They have a better affect on your subconcious will, and that paired with magickal energy usually allows your magick to be more powerful.
As for the spell writing, I don't believe there are any special rules. There are however special rules for magick.
In terms of writing spells though, theres quite a few things you can add to your spell to make it better.
Try visualizing things first to settle your mind. I tried to do a spell (my first one) and my gosh, it went all over the place as my mind wasn't focused.
Lost and found spells are a great way to start as you have to picture the lost thing in your mind and really concentrate on it.
Just imagining colours, images. people, abjects etc and holding them in your mind for a few minutes to get the idea of visualizing stuff will greatly help.
Also, check out correspondences for things as that can help amplify the spell.
