Adon, now you just appear to being moody since no one is telling you what you want to hear. Just because we don't think it plays a direct part doesn't mean you can't have your own opinion, just let us have ours.

I dunno if that's how you are, but that's what it's feeling like.

I would say that it is ruining things for us. In the first place, when you tell people you are for example Wicca, they don't take you seriously. Now with movies, if you tell them you're Wicca, they'll say that you watch too much television.

Although, some people watch too much television and don't know when to stop pretending. I think that they then give us a bad name, these roleplayers.

Maybe some of them think that for example if you're a werewolf, you physically turn into an animal during full moon. Thats why these forums are here, to learn them that that isn't the case.

Then there are those who know that it isn't true, but just like to roleplay. Maybe because they don't get enough attention from friends for example.

This is what upsets me. There is this stereotype that exists about what the occult is because of movies. This now includes Wicca, vampires etc.

I've read that more and more people are turning to the Wicca religion. Why do you think this is? Two answers:

1. Wicca is now a religion and everyone can now practise witchcraft and no one can stop you in any way.

2. The media is focusing more and more on things like movies about magic, vampires etc. because they have seen that the people like it and therefore they can make money.

The problem comes in with the second answer. The media is to blame for this stereotype about what Wicca is. Now kids for example discover that Wicca is real but they are under the wrong impression about what it really is. Voila, instant roleplayer.

I remember when I was little, the first Harry Potter was released. My friends and I was huge fans. We made our own brooms and wands and even a quidich field. We ran around with our brooms and had wand fights. We had so much fun. But that is where it ended, it was just a game. But some people don't know that it is just a game. They don't know that movie magic and magick is in no way related. They never stop the game and when they come across websites like this, then they bring the game here.

So you see, it is ruining things for us, for now everyone starts to think that we as witches or vampires don't know when to stop pretending. They are blinded by this stereotype. But the media don't complain, because there is money to be made.

When you go and look for old movies about witchcraft, you will see that it is closer to real Wicca, not today's computer generated effects. Somewhere along the way there came this huge gap between real Wicca and movies and I don't think that gap will ever get smaller again.

You do have a point there Leopard... the people getting the attention seem to represent the whole, which isn't right. Like mall-goths, or what I call "fashion hippies": people who treat the sustainability and environmental issues as fashions. Ugh, it just irks me. I am roommates with one... she is a terrible waster of electricity and her fancy designer hippie clothes were probably made in a sweat shop. I can't properly articulate what I mean... "posers", I'd suppose you'd say... but worse? In terms of publicity, there are activists for any particular group, and there are living stereotypes. :/

It's really late at night and I'm off to bed, I just wanted to chime in that my college indeed has a Quidditch team! I've never seen the game played, but they use brooms! You may be able to find it on YouTube.

I'll respond properly in the morning, after a nice long night of sleep.

That is only slightly horrifying.
I must look it up next chance I get.

I was just stopping by this morning to find out if anyone else replied to this thread. I was curious to see what BlackLeopard said. Truthfully, I'm impressed with the amount of observations you seem to be making, of which I agree with. Though as mentioned earlier, I think "posers" whether Twilight exists or not would still be growing in numbers and just as superfluous as they are today. Twilight merely has effect on the topic of which we are presented with and irritated by, still yet to convine that it plays a direct role in "ruining" our world (if you will) that we got going on here. My point is, if Twilight wren't there, they'd all just be Harry Potter wannbes instead of Isabella Swan.

Yes, it is not only twilight. Harry Potter also have an influence.

You should check the quidditch games on Youtube, I had such a laugh! It looks like so much fun! :-) The snitch is someone with yellow clothes on, running around!

I love Harry Potter, yet I don't read the books, just watch the movies. I also pretended to be a wizard because it was fun, but I finally got to my senses at 11 or 10. BlackLeopard, I couldn't have said it better, you are totally right!

Oh and I dont think they ruin it I think they are what keep it alive in some ways but they have lost there way like the vampire alien concept in movies and what not. I think if you want to make a good flick just stick to the basics like in the movie The Forsaken.
