ITT: Mod bawws about grammar bashing.

I haven't seen any of what you're describing at all. Personally, I've only ever seen people mention it when it comes to the point of being near incoherent. People should make an effort when having a conversation and make use of a dictionary/spellcheck.

I have been reading posts for a while and on particular one a guy was ridiculed for not writing it correctly.. That is why I posted it up.

None of us are know it alls.. I for one am not!
I do agree that people should try ie. spell checks and all, but all im saying is dont forget about those who do not have english as a first language and some do suffer with dyslexia.. That is all I am saying!

In my opinion, that is beyond dyslexia or not knowing proper English. That's just being stupid. But, I do get your point. I just thought I would make one from an opposing view. Probably a highly exaggerating opposing view, but an opposing view nonetheless.

For spellcheck, I recommend Mozilla Firefox which can be found at www.mozilla.com for free. It catches most words, but does not know all words so there are some you will have to add to your dictionary. Generally these are words such as "lycans" or "magick" etc, the words that aren't commonly found in "normal" society.

You must remember that this is the internet and things have pretty much always been like this online.

The only time this particularly upsets me is when proper spelling isn't even attempted. "Postss ridden laiq DIS", are more chatspeak/ebonics/laziness than dyslexia or non-native attempts at writing.

Firefox has a built in spellchecker which comes in really handy for posting on forums; I use it!

On another note, lazy grammar and an overall lack of effort simply makes you look stupid.

I understand that people have their own way to type. My first language is not English, but I still learned because I had to (not by anyone in the site but by my other side of my family). But their are a some people that do type to the point you have no clue what their saying. Like you said, don't attack them, just ask them to repeat in a more clearly text.

Other then that it wasn't a big deal a long long long time ago, but now it is. Don't know why but I can not say that I don't care.

I agree with Ragnorak and Kikuyo .

L33t, chatspeak, netspeak, text speak, whatever, is STOOOOOPID! For someone to take you seriously, don't use it! And usually, I have NO IDEA what people are saying. I've had applications to join Practical Witches, and messaged the person back to ask them to re-do it in English, and get no response. So I find people like that lazy and obviously not willing to learn (in Practical Witches or anywhere on this site).

If it's someone who obviously doesn't speak English as a first language, or has learning differences where spelling is an issue, that's pretty noticeable and I have no issues with it (because they TRY, right?). I would NEVER put down someone with an obvious learning difference or who speaks a different language who is trying to type properly (maybe they could say "English isn't my first language" or something, so that we can try to help them as much as we can, too).

I'm all for the helping. :D
