Getting a familiar, you must be chosen and to chose, its a pact.
If you mean Spirit Animal, then I would suggest meditation.

Then, if you have a connection with an animal, then they can potentially be your familiar.
You can't just go to a pet store and pick one out.
Its a pact from BOTH sides, both you and the animal must agree.
If the animal rejects you, they are not your familiar.
They help you in magick and you help them. I repeat, you help them aswell. It isn't you getting both sides of the platter.

Instinkt, might I ask how you ask the animal to agree? I'm just guessing getting to actually know the animal, not just assuming it to be your familiar.
