Contrary to many witches i am one that will tell you there is rules, rules you must follow its in everything you do, one must not use magick to infringe on a person's free will nor torment them with unnecessary curses. Some ppl say magick has no law, but in this world there are boundaries for a reason so to does magick.

Laws as in the sense rules and regulations or as in the sense of
exact mechanics of cause and effect the answer is no!!!!
If your asking if there are consequences to your actions
than the answer is of cores there is!
There are consequences to anything you do in life.

Even if the consequence is only in you knowing what you did
you will at some point have to come to terms with your actions.

Have to disagree with you serp.

There is no set law to magick. There are rules individuals, or groups set for themselves...but as a magickal community as a whole there is no rule, law, doctrine or anything else you want to call it.

I could sit here and argue you to the death as to why 90% of spells done in some way shape or form "affect" someone's free will. Which, by doing so and by your standards means we should severly limit our magickal creativity.

I personally follow my moral compass. If the voice in my head tells me it's not the best idea ever, I walk away from it. Sometimes ones own guilt is what brings about the acts of "Karma". But that is the law of attraction and a completely seperate topic.

The only rules and restrictions I need for magick are the ones I set myself. And even those can be broken from time to time if the situation calls for it.

Karma is only a factor if you allow Karma to be a factor. If you do not believe something bad will happen to you by casting a harmful spell on someone than it wont.

Well, it sounds like some of you have mixed ideas. Just to clear things up, I was talking about somehow the spell reverberating in the universe and coming back at you. Not laws that other people have defined in order to keep us under control.

The law is based on if a door was opened to you to peform an act on or against someone. If the other person or person commits an act against you conscience of their act the door is open.

But you have two choices in what you can use. You can cast a spell that grants you to take revenge through your success in life or you can take an eye for an eye in equal response.

You can make the guilty party loose equal to the transgression caused against you.

You do risk an action coming back on you if you attempt to harm the innocent. Those are the rules.

Hello, I'm new here, but thught I'd put my two cents in anyway since the subject of this thread is one I am personally very interested in. I used to believe in the wiccan rede and the law of return, but no more.
For every action there is a reaction. Thats why you think long and hard BEFORE you cast any spell, you think of all the things that might happen, everything that could go wrong. And you realize you can't possible imagine every scenario. Then if you are willing to accept those consequences, even the unexpected ones and be responsible for the results, then, and only then do you work your spell.
This is not because of a fear of some vague future punishment, but because, simply put, it's wrong to harm someone without reason.
Its wrong to cast spells heedlessly, with no regard of what the results might be. Its wrong, period.
The boundries are your own personal ethics and only you can decide what those ethics are

The thing is the effect is far more than psychological. It affects the reality around and in you in more profound ways because your reality is a reflection of you, often not a direct reflection because people conceal things even from themselves. A conscience, outside of guilt and blame is nothing more than the expression of compassion and empathy, which is staying connection to one's inner nature (the nature that is not traumatized) and one's environment including other people.

You're right, Phoenix, the spells you cast do affect your reality. Thats why you weigh every spell you cast most carefully, and only use magick after you exhaust every mundance avenue to achieve your goal
