Mermaid Spell

I was wondering about the temporary mermaid spell. Do you have to repeat it every day until you see some results, or do you do it just once? And do you have to wear some kind of symol (ring,necklace, bracelet) while your doing the spell?

It'd be great if I got some help on this :-)
