Advice for studies

Due to the Priestess of Divine Spirits...Lady SilverVixen's concerns about the activity of the coven I have made this thread so you can post what you are currently or newly studying in and may require a little more help in gaining knowledge about.

Now feel free to add what you are learning just now or wanting to learn and if you're needing help in any areas of your choosen subject.

If none of the coven members have any experience in your subject to advise you, then I'm sure the Silvervixen, Brim, Me and other council members will try the very best to find you the information you need to help you on your path to learning your choosen field of study.

So please let the coven know what studies interest you on your path to learning.

I will start with my newest study that I'm trying to learn.

I'm having just recently starting trying to learn to read the tarot cards.
Right now I'm trying to learn the meanings of the individual cards and get my personal interpretation of each card.

I have the Cosmic tarot deck and I have went with my own intuition so far as how to keep and cleanse them.
When I got the cards after opening the pack I cleansed each card with Jasmine and held the card to my heart and said "guide me with truth and clarity" then lucky I had a black pouch just the right size for the cards and a wooden box that the cards fit in perfectly. So I keep my cards in the pouch with a small raw spirit crystal in the pouch with them and then place the cards in the wooden box when not in use.

So I would love some advice on tips for learning to read tarot and what are the best spreads to use and anything else that will help me how to read the cards.

Opal, thanks a ton for this post, it really shows initiative from the council members.

A few tips, Keep doing what you are doing. By working with your cards on a one on one level like you are, and really getting to the heart and soul of each card with your own interpretation you are creating a true link to the cards and visa versa. One quick tip though, Sleep with them for one week, either under your pillow, or next to your bed. It'll help strengthen the link you are creating.

I'm still in my study phase, although I have been working on practicing. The main books that I've been working with are Modern Magick by Donald Kraig, and The Inner Temple of Witchcraft by Christopher Penzcak. The rituals in Modern Magick I've been working on doing every day, generally at night before I go to bed, they include a relaxation ritual, the LBRP (which I just started including that within the past week), and a tarot contemplation ritual. The tarot contemplation has been really helpful for me learning the meanings of the Major Arcana. With the ITOW (Inner Temple of Witchcraft)has been helping me learn how to feel and work with energy, meditate, visualize, and basically work on your psychic abilities. While I've heard some say that his concept of "instant magick" is screwy, I find it does make sense and I have gotten it to work on occasion. For me though, I'm just trying to work on my basics, which both books have been helping me with.

Right now my interest are herbalism and I am rereading Magical Herbalism by Scott Cunnington again. I am try to get some information from my parents in some herbs that they know like with the star arise. I learned that in Guatemala when the woman finally gives birth she makes a tea of the star arise so the pain can fade. I got that info from my dad. What they are teaching me our the use of herbs in medical use not magical but I like both of them so I'm happy.

Is there any books that anyone can recommend me that has more information on herbalism and any advise that can help me?

Thank you!

Thanks for the information Lady SilverVixen... I have had them on a stand next to my bed but in the box, I slept with them out of the box under my pillow last night, and I had a vivid dream about Ants and the qualities of the ant totem I find quite apt for learning a new skill.

LunaticGirl, you might like this book, I was having a look through the search inside this book link, and I quite like the look of this book myself, so I'm adding that on to my list of books to buy..I'm going have an awful lot of reading to do soon as my list is getting longer Lol!

Has a lot of good reviews for it being a good book for the lore of herbs and magical uses though not for medical purposes.

Lunatic, another good good is Complete Illustrated Encyclopedia of Magical Plants by Susan Greg. It gives you very detailed pictures of the plants and also gives you a run down of basic magical and medical properties of some of the most common plants used. I use the book as a reference when I'm writing up spells that use different herbs, it's very helpful.

Also, The Herbal Handbook: A User's Guide to Medical Herbalism by David Hoffman is ok too for a more in depth look at medicinal uses.

well as a council member i too have to add my share, although i need no help in area i will just like to share my interest in the study of dimensional consciousness /indigo and crystal children.

This is very interesting to me at the moment since we are in the period of 4th dimensional transition and the chat room runs so fast for me to able to address everyone's questions
