I was just wondering why everything in magic is always in symbols or some kind of codes?

Merry Meet Enia

I also think that back in the dark ages things had to be secret as peoples lives depended upon it, so secret codes and symbols were used.

Also symbols and sigls have great power.

I would have said because codes and symbold don't as directly affect the conscious region of your brain. For example, in sigil work, you want to know what It means, but you want it to easily mesh with you subconscious as well. In the dark ages I think mysticism was a little more expected. Even some Christian crusaders probably had an oracle of some sort. A lot of the hiding didn't come about until magick was a widespread belief that was opressed by a largely catholic world. I dunno.
