Can you create Gods?

In chaos magic you adopt beliefs only to discard them at a later date. You invoke the aid of Gods that have existed since the dawn of mankind yet all Gods were created at some point. In chaos magic it is believed that belief itself is the key to making any spell work so in that case, could you make your own Gods? Just so long as you strongly believe in them during the spell and discard them afterwards?

One of the main components of magick is belief, though how you force yourself to believe in something you make up I don't know, but it sounds possible. It depends on what you believe. I often invoke old gods ranging from Greek to Egyptian, but I don't believe in them. In the way I practice magick the gods represent different aspects of magick and life I believe in Example: I invoke Athena as she's the goddess of knowledge so I feel I am invoking knowledge and I might invoke Hecate or Isis as they are goddesses of magick from different cultures so I feel I am speaking to magick itself. In my situation making up a god wouldn't matter as long as I linked them to something I believe in. In a situation of religious like belief creating a god that doesn't exist in theory might work, but if you make them up you know they aren't real and the belief aspect sounds difficult. Some people have a theory that gods were once made up by humans and were born out of
thought, belief, etc..., but that is when millions believe in them or do at some point to have their thoughts manifest. I don't agree with that theory, but even if that's how gods came to be it would take more than one person believing in them I'm sure.

No. There is only one. He creates us, not the other way around. Just saying.

i agree with last post, but still many (but not all) mages have an inbuilt need to "play god", same as 90% of average beings who do not have any form of true personal realationship with the higher power:) my sugestion, is try finding god, before you go tring to make yourself a god, or to make a god, your just asking for a missiah ilusion on ur way to "christ contiousness"...for more info, feel free to messege:)

I believe that there are two "types" (not the perfect word, but I'll explain) of gods, Elders and Idols. Elders refer to the beings that originally inspired or were worshiped as gods. Idols are what the gods represent to us, and are what I believe we invoke during spells. They exist within the collective consciousness. I don't think it's impossible to create a god like you describe, but I doubt it'll work in quite the same way. I like the idea of chaos magick, but that's based around beliefs, not necessarily gods.

I don't really believe in Gods. There are far too many in this world and the eldest Gods are those of the Hindu faith. At least as far as we know. I don't mean to contradict anyone's faith but I, personally, don't believe in them.

my friends and i had a similar topic back in high school, or it was if all gods are immortal, how can a god be destroyed if it's and ancient religion? [meaning people no longer believe in greek religion as much, so they become myths and nothing more than stories, but they were once all powerful beings]

anyway, you can create something you feel represents and protects you, but it would not be a 'god' so to speak i think.

To me, a god is made of man's belief in it (the god).
Can you create a god? not in original sense of the term. Can you create something akin to a god, of lesser magnitude? Yes, i i believe so.

Research Servitors and egregores if you haven't already =)

Yet all Gods were made by someone at some point. They had to be.
