Okay don't judge please but
I met my girlfriend over the Internet and she lives a few hundred miles away from Massachusetts in North Carolina. We love each other very much, but the other day we both noticed we had patterns of seemingly out of the blue emotions that mirrored what the other was feeling at the time, even though we were out of direct contact at that moment. This is the second or third time this has happened. Could this mean we are developing some type of connection?
Yes. This is fairly normal when you develop a form of empathy for a person. Not saying you are an "empath" but we all have it to a degree. When we communicate a lot with someone, we develop "links" to said person. This happens with any relationship if you allow it, as you go through life.

Gonna say that Anaia nailed it on the answer to this one.
This is perfectly normal because you do become used to other person and will subconsciously end up with strange occurrences like what you describe. No one knows exactly how it works but there are a lot of theories out there actually for this. I've read about some in metaphysical themed books. You might want to look into metaphysical articles and see if you can find out more info. I just wish I could remember where I read about it so I could give you some links or book titles. Sorry I can't be any more helpful.
Hi Norse, that sounds like exactly what is happening. It is natural when two people develop and deepen their relationship. It doesn't always happen, but it's normal. My mother and father met online many years ago. She was in US and was in Australia, which is something like 13,000 miles away. They both described similar things between them as they grew closer in their bond and relationship. :) Enjoy it, it can be a lot of fun, and give you both some great and even funny memories. Sometimes it can even save a life. There are even exercises the two of you can do to strengthen the connection.
